ABOUT LARKE.PIX
A few good friends and the wave of technology influenced my passion for photography. I love to hike and a few friends who were avid hikers and remarkable photographers introduced me to the DSLR. Around this time, I purchased a mobile device and was impressed with the photo quality. I began using my mobile device to shoot, edit and post my images to social media sites. I received great feedback because of my photos and decided it was time to explore the journey of becoming photographer.
In June 2017, I purchased my first digital camera. What begun as a hobby,transitioned into an innate passion. As I utilized the networking properties of social media, the support of my friends and family, and my own creative perspective of expressing time and emotion, I was able to transition into a freelance photographer. My style has been described as eclectic and raw street photography. My artistic influence comes from Gordon Parks, Vivian Maier, Salvador Dahli, Frida Kahlo, Dave LaChappelle, and Annie Lebovitz.
In one year I have had the pleasure of being an event photographer for ARRAY, The film collective founded by Ava DuVernay, AFRO Magazine, DC SAFE, RAW Artisit Showcase, PAINTS Institute and BRAVE Summit (nonprofit community organizations). My work has been featured in the first published Femme Fatale DC Photobook. In addition, I have had the honor of creating and collaborating photoshoots for some of the most innovative local Washington DC residents, creative entrepreneurs, and talented event planners.
While I have had a fulfilling experience, following my passion has crafted and guided a responsibility to focus on community. Art occurs in everyday life. It is the intrinsic expression that bravely contributes to a voice to the community. The two most current upcoming community projects are photodocuseries highlighting topics of wellness and housing.
My goal is to continue to use photography as a creative method to express the interconnection between emotion and time from varied human experiences. Recently, I have joined the Maryland State Artist Council as a registered visual artist. I am commiting to using the artist registery as a valuable resource to attain, learn, and educate people about cultural awareness in national and international communities with photography. I look forward to collabrations with other artists on this platform, personal exhibitions, residency programs and educational resources.
